Narcissism, Everpresence, and the Twin Flame Experience

Today, I want to talk about a phenomenon that affects so many people after narcissistic abuse — usually following an intimate partner relationship — and that is everpresence.
So, what exactly is everpresence?
It’s the uncomfortable, intrusive, and at times deeply unsettling sensation of feeling the narcissist’s presence with you all the time on an energetic level — sometimes for weeks, sometimes for months, and in some cases, for years after the relationship has officially ended.
To someone who hasn’t lived it, this might sound a bit woo-woo. But if you’ve experienced this phenomenon, you’ll likely exhale with relief reading this. Because yes — it’s a real thing. And no — you’re not “going crazy.”
Now, to be clear: while I’m a trained and experienced therapist, I’m not here diagnosing anyone with a mental health condition. But I am experienced enough to recognise when someone’s experience aligns more with something like erotomania — a rare psychiatric condition where someone believes another person is in love with them despite evidence to the contrary (and often without ever having met).
Erotomania is not what we’re talking about here.

Everpresence is different. Entirely.
Everpresence often shows up in people who are deeply intuitive, emotionally sensitive, spiritually attuned — people who are, ironically, completely of sound mind. People who find themselves in a relationship with a narcissist, only to discover that leaving the relationship doesn’t cut the energetic cord. In fact, for some, the connection feels stronger once the physical relationship ends.
So… what is that about?
The Esoteric, the Energetic, and the Impossible-to-Measure
Anything in this more mystical or energetic realm is hard to “prove.” We live in a world that worships logic, intellect, and data — and everpresence doesn’t show up on a brain scan. It can only really be experienced to be understood.
It’s also different from the rumination and obsessive thinking that often follows narcissistic abuse. Those patterns are well-documented: videos, books, blogs — you can find endless information on why survivors loop mentally on the relationship.
But everpresence?It’s more than rumination.
Yes, narcissists intentionally create long-lasting psychological and sensory imprints through manipulation — what I often call ecosystem-level conditioning. They mirror your tastes in music, fragrances, hobbies. They intertwine themselves with your nervous system so that every time you hear that song or smell that scent, they reappear in your mind.
This is strategic. This is deliberate. This is how they maintain power, control, and psychological ownership long after the breakup.
But everpresence goes beyond those manipulations.
And I know this because — like many of you — I’ve lived it.
The Twin Flame Journey & Everpresence
For people who get swept up in the twin flame ideology, a similar phenomenon occurs. Many describe:
feeling their “twin” energetically at all times
sensing telepathic communication
having vivid dreams or astral-realm encounters
believing in a soul bond that transcends logic or physical reality
In many cases, the so-called twin flame is actually a narcissist who used the very manipulations I mentioned above. That alone can create the illusion of an unbreakable connection.
But some experiences — mine included — went beyond that.
I had dreams that felt like meetings on the astral plane. I had waking-lucid moments where I was convinced I was receiving telepathic messages. And all of this was reinforced by twin flame literature:“This is normal. This is part of the connection. This is proof you’ve found The One.”
And if you’re thinking, “Julia… were you okay?”Trust me — I was thinking the same thing.
I got a full mental health check-up.All clear.Nothing to suggest delusion or instability.I was sane, grounded — and still having these bizarre, paranormal-seeming experiences for months, even years.
Meanwhile, the actual human man I believed to be my “twin” was… dismissive. Manipulative. Cruel, even. The coldness of his real-world behaviour was the polar opposite of the intense nocturnal dreamscape I was having.
Talk about a mindfuck.
And then — years later — when I finally learned the truth: that the twin flame group I’d been part of was essentially a cult…The experiences stopped.Abruptly.
Almost like a switch flipped.
Making Sense of It All
During my healing, I came across the work of Eve Lorgen, particularly her books The Dark Side of Cupid and The Alien Love Bite. She writes about otherworldly interference and energetic distortions within human love relationships.
Her work isn’t for the faint-hearted — it’s definitely on the more fringe side of the spectrum — but for those who’ve lived something similar, it can feel like someone finally speaking a language you didn’t know anyone else understood.
Reading her insights felt like being deeply seen for the first time in a very surreal, traumatic, confusing chapter of my life. For anyone who resonates with these experiences, Lorgen’s work can be a lifeline.
I’ll be writing a follow-up article breaking down her theories and how they intersect with the twin flame phenomenon.
For now, my hope is simple:
If you’ve experienced everpresence — the energetic aftermath of narcissistic or cultic entanglement — I want you to know you’re not alone. You’re not broken. And you’re not imagining it.
What you lived through was real — even if the world has no language for it yet.
